Wellness & Vaccinations

Our pets are so much more than just animals that live in our homes. They are an important part of the family. That’s why it’s so important that we do everything within our power to extend and improve the quality of their lives as much as possible.

At Blue Ridge Animal Hospital, we truly believe that the best way to achieve the goal of helping your furbaby enjoy a long, happy and healthy life is by making a commitment to wellness care. That’s why we offer comprehensive, expertly designed wellness plans for both dogs and cats to support your loved one through every stage of life – from birth through the senior years, and every precious moment along the way.

What is wellness care and why is it such a big deal?

Wellness care typically involves an annual or semiannual visit to the vet, regardless of health status. It’s essentially like the annual checkups you have with your own doctor. These routine visits allow us to take the appropriate measures to both prevent disease and to detect illness in its earliest stages, when it’s easier and more affordable to treat.

A wellness visit begins with a thorough physical exam of your pet. The vet will spend time checking your pet’s entire body to make sure everything is working just as it should be. This includes an external exam as well as an internal evaluation of the heart and lungs, a weight check and any routine diagnostic tests the vet may feel is necessary. We will also discuss and make recommendations on important health care topics, such as diet and exercise, behavior and more.

Disease prevention is one of the most important components of companion animal wellness care. This means that we will take a proactive approach to keeping your pet safe and healthy by protecting them from many of the dangers that exist in their everyday environment. We accomplish this through vaccinations and other tools, like parasite control, nutrition and weight management. The more we plan ahead, the better the chances of your pet enjoying a long, healthy life.

We also use wellness visits as an opportunity to detect existing health problems early, before they have a chance to develop into a more serious and costly problem. It’s always easier to treat and manage an illness when it’s in its earliest stages than it is to address it once it’s progressed. Not only is this a much more affordable approach to your pet’s health care, but it can also add years to your loved one’s life, which is always our goal at BRAH.

Lastly, although equally as important, wellness care allows all of us at Blue Ridge Animal Hospital to develop a relationship with you and your pet. We believe that this provides us with a solid foundation on which to build the most precise and effective health care plan possible for your four-legged friend. Furthermore, when we are able to establish a partnership with you, we are all able to work together toward providing your furbaby with the best possible life.

You want your loved one to enjoy as long, happy and healthy a life as possible. Let us support you in that endeavor through our comprehensive wellness care services.
